C.Painted_Background_014[1]Fears – Fears are often simply our insecurities, our negative self-talk, our reluctance, our resistance. We often have a fear of change, a fear of the unknown. We can have a fear of failure, of success, of looking like a fool. A fear of not finishing, and a fear of not starting.  A fear that nobody will like us.

Don’t let any of that hold you back. I’ve heard it said that FEAR can be an acronym – but it can be used several ways. Fake Evidence Appearing Real (I’ve also heard “Fuck Everything And Run”); or Face Everything DSCN6974[1]And Recover. It is your choice. Do you believe lies and fears and want to run and hide? Or do you choose to face your fears and do it anyway?

We all have fears. It’s not about getting rid of the fears, it’s about taking them along with us for the journey. We look at our fears and face them and see them for what they are. Just parts that want to pull back. But we are so much more than that. And we deserve so much better than a life held back by fear.

tennessee_087[1]For some things, maybe the fears will turn into excitement. Or maybe the fears can propel us forward to something better. Or maybe we can look at our fears and decide to simply do it anyway.

Fears are not who we are – don’t let them define you. You are so much more than your fears. A huge percentage of our fears do not come true. So why should we dwell there?

And just WHAT IF… What if the fears do not come true? What if you do better than DSCN6836[1]expected? What if you soar and are amazing? What if you are outstanding at whatever it is you are afraid of – singing, dancing, art, writing, piano, relationships, moving, a new job, something you want to study or learn or do? What then?

What if there were no fears and nothing holding you back – what would you do?

Nothing great was ever accomplished by holding back, by not doing something, by fear. IMG_3183But great things are accomplished every day, by ordinary people, doing things despite their fears.

We all have fears. Don’t wait until the fears are gone. Whether you succeed or not, you will be way ahead of those who don’t try at all. Don’t let the fears win. Do it anyway.

The ones who do not succeed are the ones who give in to their fears and stay stuck. And if you do it despite your fears, you are already a winner. You are already stronger. Doing IMG_3297whatever it is despite your fears shows that you have courage and strength, and that you are more than you were before.

And that is worth celebrating.

We all have fears. Do it anyway.

Let your heart and spirit soar – and see how far you can go!

Applause applause! The one thing I’ve learned about fear is that the fear really is the worst part! I never heard those acronyms before but I like them (even the one in parens!). You can’t let fear win and it can. It can be so strong but we just need to be stronger or I think it will just turn into regret. Great post Lynn!

Thank you, Renata! Actually, those acronyms are from 12-step programs, and I love those acronyms! Yes, I agree – so often, the fear itself is worse than whatever follows. Thank you for your comment! 🙂

I like the Fake Evidence Appearing Real one! (and naturally I like Fuck Everything And Run too!). I do have fears and I have fears that have held me back. The older I get the less fearful I am though. That’s one good thing about aging! 🙂

Michele – thank you for your comment! Yes, fears have held me back many times. In some ways, my fears have gotten fewer and less as I get older. But physical fears have gotten more – flying, heights, etc. So as I age, I will take more emotional risks, but less physical risks. 🙂
